1. Sort it all by yourself
Nope, that's not as daunting as you may think! With Rural Retreats our excellent website will guide you through each step of the process. You can choose the perfect holiday destination, the ideal property, and get it all sorted without your partner knowing a thing about it. If you can't get any week days off, book a weekend instead. An impromptu weekend away will gain you lots of romance-brownie-points.

If you don't want make the whole holiday a surprise, then inject an element of surprise into one of your days there instead. Whether that be baking your partner's favourite treat to take with you, or planning a fun excursion, or simply booking a meal at a fancy restaurant one evening. It will show you care. 3. Turn off gadgets
Rural Retreats is supposed to provide exactly that – a retreat. Our luxurious properties have all that you could need during your holiday: beautiful interiors, luxury furnishings - they really are a home from home! And they're based in some of the UK's most spectacular locations, some of them right in the heart of the countryside. This is a brilliant excuse for you to unwind and enjoy each other's company. Take the opportunity to really invest some quality time in one another. Turn off your phones and tablets, so you can't be distracted by annoying emails coming in and just relax, talk, return home feeling refreshed and peaceful.

4. Pick a place with a fire
Nothing says 'romance' like an open fire. We have lots of properties with log burners, stoves and fire places that make the perfect evening focal point. You can't beat the natural heat and light of a fire, not to mention the warm smokey smell. It really sets the atmosphere. Return from a long walk and curl up in front of the fire to get warm.
