The Weir Garden
This stunning National Trust property is fantastic during the springtime. The riverside garden is bordered by the Wye, and large ancient trees line the banks. There are different paths to explore, a range of wonderful flora and fauna and a lovely walled garden. Visit as all the bulbs begin to emerge and see the snowdrops and daffodils fill the spaces between the trees. While you're here keep your eyes peeled for the Roman ruins or simply relax in the meadow garden! During school holidays there are trails for families to take or, if you fancy learning a little more from one of the gardeners, there are guided walks taking place on certain dates in March and April. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/the-weir-garden

Croft Castle
This dog-friendly National Trust property great for walks is the 14th century Croft Castle. This stunning estate is surrounded by a thousand years of history, with ancient trees filling the grounds and a number of hidden places to explore. There are miles and miles of walks suitable for the whole family and even Croft Ambrey, an Iron Age Hill fort, located in the grounds. If you really want to stretch your legs, the Mortimer Trail is a long distance walking route that passes through the estate. Wander in Pokehouse Wood, on a challenging woodland walk or spot the wildlife at the large fishpool. There are all sorts of trails taking place in the coming months such as the Edwardian holiday trail, the Wind in the Willows trail and the Cadbury's Easter Egg hunt over the Easter weekend. The Hay Festival
Technically the Brecon Beacons National Park resides over the border from Herefordshire, however it's such a stunning place that we thought it worth mentioning! The annual Hay Festival is a celebration of great writing, whether that be fiction or non fiction, scientific, comedy, poetry, lyrical, prose or environmental. It is a meeting of minds and an exchange of ideas. This year's festival is running from 26th May to 5th June 2016 and promises another fantastic line up. An array of interesting and well known figures turn up for the Hay Festival and a fantastic programme of events will be taking place throughout its duration. https://www.hayfestival.com
Newport House
The gardens of Newport house are 20 acres and include formal gardens and a walled garden. There's woodland to wander, a lake and plenty of walks. The gardens are continually evolving with projects and refurbishments taking place and the area often plays host to art shows, workshops and events. 'Out of Nature' was a recent sculpture exhibition that was incredibly popular. The next big diary date is the Great Spring Gardening Event on the 27th April where there will be specialist plant nurseries, items for the home, gifts, crafts and food. http://www.outofnature.org.uk/

The Courtyard
Hereford's centre for the Arts has a constantly changing programme of events. Why not do something a little different this spring and explore the lovely pedestrianised town centre of Hereford, stop for a bite to eat and then round off with a good show? There's a whole list of performances on the website, so you can book tickets online. If you're not sure what you'd like, the Hereford County Drama Festival is taking place over the weekend of the 10th March and is a series of one-act plays. www.courtyard.org.uk
Walk
The specific events around Hereford are fantastic, but don't forget Herefordshire is a great place to just walk and explore too! The Malvern Hills make up a stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that spreads across parts of three different counties. There's an incredible range of habitat and wildlife and the 2016 Malvern Walking festival is a great opportunity to discover it. Between the 28th May and the 5th June there is a series of themed walks suitable for most abilities. www.malvernwalking.uk
