This is our second visit to Benville Cottage and another wonderful stay. We love being able to walk our two dogs straight from the door and easily get onto country paths within a few minutes to stride out into the beautiful Dorset countryside. The cottage is super comfortable with a working Aga and a gorgeous sun trap of a garden with lovely rural views. It was a joy to enjoy so many sunny meals outside and just listen to the birdsong. The cottage is simply + stylishly decorated, the beds very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. Communication with the housekeeper was excellent and he gave us some great local intel. The cottage was also super cosy when the temperature dropped later in the evening + we fired up the wood burner. All in all a fabulous stay made even more perfect by some excellent restaurants in nearby Beaminster namely the Ollerod and the Walled Garden restaurant at Parnham Park. The fabulous Teal’s farm shop is also conveniently situated just off the A303. Well worth a stop to pick up delicious local products at the in store deli, charge your electric car and walk your dog in the meadow.
A lovely quiet cottage in the middle of the countryside with wonderful views but only a short distance to many attractions. The welcome basket provided everything we needed before a visit to the supermarket. It would be helpful to have a list of takeaway places provided as with a dog we prefer to eat in. The only difficulty I experienced was pulling out of the driveway, you can't see what's coming and it is a very narrow lane.
We found ourselves at the end of 2023 between houses having sold one and much work needed on our new house. So, we spent seven days at Benville Cottage over Christmas. Extremely attentive the day before we left as there was a problem with the router. When we got there all resolved. Readiing previous comments on the cottage we weren't too bothered about a 'heavy' hoover and we took an HDMI cable etc to allow for the lack of a Smart TV. The cottage now has a seriously upgraded TV and a new hoover so no need. Arriving the day before Christmas eve armed with our small Christmas tree and various decorations we found the cottage decorated complete with a magnificent tree, the whole thing magical. Basket of goodies perfect and made even more like home with the AGA which we turned up and used for the whole week! Between the AGA and the woodburner the house was, if anything too warm at times so we didn't use the woodburner as much as we expected to. Overall, an extremely well presented cottage with all you could ask for Winter or Summer and for us and our two dogs a sublime setting to unwind before returning to the real world in 2024. Would heartily reccomend!
A very comfortable, clean, cottage with a large garden and lovely views across farmland. A good central location for exploring Dorset, with excellent pubs fairly nearby.
We had a wonderful 4 days at Benville cottage, The cottage is fabby very comfortable with beautiful views. We were lucky enough to have sunny days during our visit and sat out in the large private garden enjoying the great views. Just what we needed., thank you. Don’t hesitate to book!!
Generally had a lovely time in this beautiful cottage in a lovely spot. Couple of bits of ‘constructive criticism’ - TV’s could do with updating to a smart TV so guests can access Netflix etc and vacuum cleaner a bit antiquated and heavy to carry upstairs, maybe replace with a good cordless one to make it easier for guests.
It was just right for us in every way, the fire was amazing keeping us cosy and we didn’t really need the central heating too much. The Christmas tree and decor was perfect. The only thing there were not too many walks straight from the cottage. But we did venture out and visited Maiden Castle which was really interesting. We must thank you for the supply of wood, the most we have had in any cottage we have stayed. And finally thank you for the fantastic hamper and the radio times which was not expected. We would love to visit in the summer to take advantage of the garden. Also we had a great dinner at The Acorn in Evershot.
We loved the cottage. We have a dog and the garden was brilliant for him. We always keep him on a long lead but there was lots of places to walk him around. The cottage itself is well appointed with an inner lobby to take off muddy shoes, coats and to dry the dog. The only comment we would say, not as a criticism but an observation, is that whilst there is internet available to the cottage, the tv only provides for current programmes. There is no access to 'catch up' or 'More 4' etc. We took our own Ipads so could access these but in these dark nights the opportunity to watch a good film if nothing gripping on the tv, would be enjoyable. We will definitely be back again next year. The housekeeper Helen was very accessible and helpful.
Had a wonderful autumn family break - the cottage is lovely and set in a great location; we found it clean, very comfortable, with all the essentials and a superb garden that was great for the dog. Happily recommend it.
Lovely cottage and Garden.
Really lovely house thanks!
The cottage is wonderful and in a beautiful, quiet location. It's well equipped and very homely. A perfect base for exploring West Dorset with excellent pubs nearby!
The cottage was good: good location, pleasant cottage, well fitted out, nice garden (though the weather did not allow us to enjoy it as we would in the summer). We enjoyed our stay. It was well up to Rural Retreats' high standards.
Very nice cottage, and a very enjoyable stay but a couple of niggles like, no suitable cloths to wipe down surfaces (eg J-cloths), and plenty of foil but no cling film.
Lovely location and everything you need in the kitchen. Used the Aga all the time. Hopefully will be back.
