Brilliant property, great place for 4 of our families to get together. The property is as shown in the listing We enjoyed the all that the property had to offer.
It's a perfect venue for large groups, allows space to spread out and have quiet time or all be together comfortably
The house was just right for our family group of 13 from ages 11 to 75. The drawing room was a comfortable space for gathering in front of the fire, the dining room was ideal for our birthday celebration dinner, the kitchen and breakfast room were great for cooking and serving meals, the additional fridge in the utility room was really handy for drinks and extra food storage and the bedrooms were lovely. We made use of the tennis court, football goals and the table tennis. The snug was a cosy space for small groups and some being able to watch a football game on tv without having to subject everyone to it! The views over the grounds were beautiful and peaceful. There was a problem with the temperature of the shower and also heating in the dining room but Zoe came promptly to resolve the problems. We would recommend The Old Rectory to anyone and would happily return.
Great location for a big family get together
Everything about the Old rectory was stunning. My 8 year old granddaughter asked “is this a mansion?” It certainly seemed like it. The tennis playing was hilarious. No idea who won. The welcome treats were amazing - very generous. We all felt very comfortable there. We were celebrating our Golden Wedding with the whole family aged from 4 - 76. At the end of our stay we all decided we wanted to live in the Old Rectory.
Beautiful old house with several period features. Absolutely huge including grounds, tennis court and table tennis room.
Lovely stay ,had a great time with friends
Lovely venue for a group gathering, the accommodation was accurately represented, the lady who did the changeover was very friendly and helpful. 4 stars rather than 5 because I suspect the place had not been used for a little while and it was on the cold side.
We ADORE the Old Rectory! This year was our 5th trip to celebrate Christmas as a group of university friends, and we love it more every time. The dining room is amazing for our 'family' Christmas lunch, there's enough space for everyone to spread out during the day (despite toddlers causing chaos!), and the living room is big enough for us to all gather and chat around the fire in the evenings. The whole house is beautiful, and we hope to come back for many years to come. Thank you!
Lovely property for a large family getaway. My only criticism is the lack of property manual - for example we had no instructions on recycling or general information, the light circuit blew one morning and so we had to hunt around for the fuse box rather there being a manual to refer to.
The housekeeper was excellent, ensuring we had plenty of bottled water (an unexpected problem prior to our arrival) and even returning a plug that had been left behind by our Grandchild.
Excellent location and value for money. We had a local lady come and prepare dinner on the Saturday night to celebrate a significant birthday. The dining room was spectacular for this.
Beautiful house perfect for our big family getaway. We will definitely be back.
This is the second time we have stayed here. The house and grounds are perfect for large family groups like ours. And there is lots to do in the surrounding area. Only minor flaw-there was no ice in the freezer for the gin and tonics when we arrived.
Amazing house in a great location. Just what we needed for a 50th birthday weekend. Big, but not too big. Grand, but not too grand. Just right. Well equipped, with a great welcome package. Service from Rural Retreats top notch. If I ever win enough money to build my own house, I'd base it on this one!
Very well equipped kitchen and a hamper filled with all that we needed was very much appreciated. Although a large house, we stayed in March, had a very warm, homely feel. Plenty of seating and log fire a bonus. There were 15 in our party celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary The dining room excellent for entertaining. Lovely walks around the grounds.
We had a fantastic stay at The Old Rectory before our wedding. We rented The Old Rectory for the bridal party, and then used it as a place post wedding to congregate for a BBQ with our family. Natasha was a wonderful host, the house and it's grounds are stunning, highly recommended.
We are a large family and we did not feel on top of each other but still cosy. The dining room was just perfect for dinner and we did cook each evening as with two young children it was easier. The kitchen was well equipped we did need to contact the housekeeper during our week she was lovely and sorted the issue out straight away. The house is only one of three in the village it seemed but right off the main road,to every place you’d want to go. For us it was a brilliant location quiet with large grounds and near lots of tourist locations.
We had a fantastic Easter weekend family celebration at The Old Rectory. Right from the booking, the communication with Rural Retreats and Natasha, the housekeeper, was spot on. Natasha was extremely helpful with ideas, information and recommendations prior to our visit. We were 14 of us and three generations. The house was extremely well appointed with lots of space, well decorated and furnished. The kitchen was so well equipped and we appreciated the ‘Welcome hamper’. The dining room was ideal for our evenings in: we organised a Fish & Chip supper from the Railway Tavern in Dereham for our first night (ordering the day before and everything was spot on), we had wonderful catering from Suzie on the second evening and we self catered a Sunday roast which was easy to do with the facilities drawing room was a focal point and we loved the real fire. We used the breakfast room in the mornings and it was nice to have the TV in a separate room from the main drawing room. Overall, we were very impressed with the property and Rural Retreats. If money was available to spend on The Old Rectory then I would suggest another walk-in shower and to get the fireplace up and running or some further heating in the dining room as it did get quite cold. Would love to go back for a Summer visit sometime and use the outside space and tennis court.
Stunningly gorgeous house with a lovely, relaxed feel. Beautiful grounds with an amazing church almost in the garden..... Plenty of space for all 13 of us. We’d love to return in the summer for some outdoor fun and bbq’s.
What a fabulous review for The Old Rectory. Thank you so much.
