Enjoyable stay. Comfortable beds, and well equipped kitchen. Somewhat sparse look to the overall look of the house. Good main bathroom, but shower rooms were small and poky. Washbasins were particularly useless. As others have mentioned the steps down to the property from the parking area are lethal when damp, and no handrail apart from the first few steps. We have no mobility issues but took extra care when using them. Ideal location for walking on the coast and moorland.
Very nice house. Magnificent view. Steps down to the house very slippery when wet and it rained every day; a handrail only for part of the steps, not good for people with mobility issues
Lovely view and beautiful house. Very clean. Loved the wood burners.
An excellent spacious modern house that's ideal for big family get togethers - we spent Christmas here and really appreciated the thoughtful tree and decorations and also the lovely housekeeper Katie who was very helpful in the lead up. The open plan layout is great and the views and location stunning. A few niggles with the property, however. The fridge is very small for a property sleeping 8, not helped by the fact that the shelves are missing from the inside door - so nowhere to keep bottles or cartons upright. This was a real issue over Christmas. We had been told there would be enough logs 'for the duration of your stay' but there were barely enough for two fires and we were unable to get more for a few days because places were shut over Christmas. This was disappointing. If we had known, we would brought our own. The underfloor heating system is very complicated and there are no proper instructions in the guest info book. Again others have pointed this out in their reviews, so why have Rural Retreats or the owners not acted on the feedback? The hot water ran out quickly and we had to spend a fair bit of time working out how to boost the immersion heater. This should be basic information provided - no-one wants to spend their holiday fiddlying with thermostats etc. The bedrooms were spotless but very plain and 'Ikea-basic' - not very cosy in winter. At this premium price a few more soft furnishings and pictures would have been appreciated and as many others have pointed out, there is no hanging space for clothes in any of the bedrooms. The house was immaculately clean and full marks to Katie for this.
Thank you so much for your helpful and constructive feedback. The owner has confirmed that he will make the following changes based on your comments - 1. New fridge 2. New easier central heating controls 3. Adequate log provision 4. More pictures on the walls
House was very clean. Plenty of room with areas to sit and read, have dinner, play board games. Bedrooms were very spacious, having two en-suites, a bathroom and a downstairs toilet was a luxury. In the downstairs toilet a member of our party got locked in as the lock popped out, fortunately there was one of us to help out. Lovely garden with amazing views but the garden was not totally secure as there was no gate at the top of the driveway. Local pub was amazing, great food, very nice staff and dog friendly. Walks from the cottage were great but hilly walking back up. Excellent bus service to Whitby, excellent train service to Whitby, sleights, Grosmont and Goathland.
RedRoofs is an excellent, well equipped property with stunning views over the Esk valley. The spacious kitchen is great with both comfy chairs and a table around which everyone can eat. The lounge offers plenty of seating for everyone and the patio provides a super outdoor space to chill and admire those views. Steam train enthusiasts will love it! The bedrooms are a good size but the two ensuite bathrooms are quite small though perfectly adequate albeit with tiny washbasins. The welcome hamper was a mark up on the usual goodies left for incoming visitors and we enjoyed the lot!! The only reason I have not given 5 stars is the access to the property which is down a flight of stone steps over half of which lack a handrail. One of our group suffered a nasty fall. Furthermore, on many websites advertising the property, there is no mention that the only access is down the steps so not good for anyone with mobility issues. Overall, the property is very good and we would certainly be happy to stay there again. Just watch those steps!!
The house and views were amazing! Lots of space, great kitchen, dinning and living ares. The en suite shower rooms were compact and the sinks were extremely small, also more lights needed in them both, however the main bathroom was light, spacious and had a great mirror. Everything was clean and tidy, and the welcome hamper was very generous.
A beautiful house in a gorgeous location. It was spacious and comfortable for the whole family. It was nice to get the welcome pack. The views were stunning. Would definitely recommend staying there. We had a fantastic time. Lovely accommodation. Could do with a gate at the entrance especially when you have dogs or young children with you.
Great location, fantastic house and amenities and beautifully appointed.
What a gorgeous home. 8 of us stayed there for 4 nights and we all fell in love with the home. Fantastics views from the cosy corner, everyine fought of the chair in the corner. Very clean and comfortable home. Lovely pamper was waiting for us when we arrived :) Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay here
Lovely stay, beautiful home. Only knocked a star off as not as dog friendly or child friendly due to no gates and being very cobbled.
Lovely holiday home with stunning views in a quiet village and close enough to Whitby and the coastal bays
Wonderful accommodation - sparkling clean, very comfortable with fabulous views. We will return!
Views superb. Comfortable and clean house with a nice feel to it. Spacious too. The property on the whole was fantastic and well equipped but no wardrobes? Kitchen was missing a tin opener that worked and there were two tea towels - odd oversights. Heating also not easy to work out and the fire in the living room is hard to operate. A few minor details but overall we loved the house and, as said earlier, the views were superb!
Beautiful setting, glorious views from every room. Steep steps to access the property with no handrail should be noted anyone with the slightest disability would find them impossible.1 hanging cupboard for the entire property is ridiculous, also no shaving points in any bathroom (if you could call them that just a small cupboard) my husband had to go and buy a razor as no where to charge an electric one. The welcome basket was superb thank you. Overall it is a lovely cottage clean and a very helpful lady that cleaned.
This was a lovely stay with beautiful views. There were just a few things for improvement..There was only 1 small wardrobe in one of the bedrooms which for 5 persons was unacceptable. Also the step steps down to the property had no hand rail which is a serious Health & Saftey issue which needs urgent review.
1front steps rather tricky a rail would be helpful. 2 two king size beds better than one double and one king size. However it was a lovely house great views fires lovely at night Well equipped generous welcome basket.Katie Jones was very kind and helpful a pleasure to talk to
A lovely house in a great location
Loved the property and the view was stunning. The only little thing was not enough mirrors in the bedrooms.
